β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
In a crossed laserβmolecular beam study of nitromethane it was found that the excitation of nitromethane at 266 nm did not yield dissociation products under collisionβfree conditions. When a small cluster of nitromethane was excited at the same frequency, the product was seen only at energies and masses consistent with the rupture of the van der Waals bond by vibrational predissociation of the excited state.

We report a picosecond pump-probe study of the UV photolysis of gaseous dimethylnitramine. After photolysis by picosecond laser pulses at 266 nm, efficient monophotonic collision-free photodissociation occurs within 6 ps. NO\* fragments are formed in the ground electronic state and in a fluorescent
The rotational population distribution of OD\*(A 'Z\* ) fragments produced by two-photon photodissociation of D20 at 266 nm has been determined from an analysis of the A \*x+-X 'I-I fluorescence. The distribution obtained seems to confirm the existence of long-lived trajectories when the dissociatio
Molecular hydrogen is observed to be one of the major primary products in the 193 nm photodissociation of phenylstlane. A two-channel dissociation mechanism is proposed, yielding PhSiH + H, and SiH, + PhH with the former predominant. The implications of this observation for experiments which utilise
The photodissociation of iodine monochloride following excitation at 235 nm, within its second absorption band, has been investigated further using ion imaging methods to monitor the Cl(2P~/2 ) and C1 \* (2P~/2) atomic products. The angular distributions of these products are found to be characteris
