✦ Synopsis

We report a picosecond pump-probe study of the UV photolysis of gaseous dimethylnitramine.

After photolysis by picosecond laser pulses at 266 nm, efficient monophotonic collision-free photodissociation occurs within 6 ps. NO* fragments are formed in the ground electronic state and in a fluorescent excited state: the quantum yields for both of these channels are estimated.

## Abstract In a crossed laser–molecular beam study of nitromethane it was found that the excitation of nitromethane at 266 nm did not yield dissociation products under collision‐free conditions. When a small cluster of nitromethane was excited at the same frequency, the product was seen only at en

## Abstract Chromophore effect in the photodissociation of protonated peptides at 266 nm was investigated using synthetic peptides with the sequence RGGXGGGGGR where X was a phenylalanyl(F), tyrosyl(Y), cysteinyl(C), glycyl(G), seryl(S), or histidyl(H) residue. The rotational population distribution of OD\*(A 'Z\* ) fragments produced by two-photon photodissociation of D20 at 266 nm has been determined from an analysis of the A \*x+-X 'I-I fluorescence. The distribution obtained seems to confirm the existence of long-lived trajectories when the dissociatio

Quantum yields for the loss of disilane and the formation of silane in the 193 nm photodissociation of disilane have been measured using time-resolved infrared diode laser absorption spectroscopy under single excimer laser pulse conditions at total pressures of 5 to 10 Torr in helium buffer gas. The
