✦ Synopsis

Recent progress in high-throughput enzyme assays includes new examples of fluorogenic and chromogenic substrates, fluorescence resonance energy transfer substrates, and applications of the pH and pM indicator methods. Recent developments of Horeau's pseudo-enantiomer derivatisation method to screen enantioselectivities in high-throughput have also been reported.

Two NMR-based approaches for highthroughput screening of enantioselective catalysts and biocatalysts are described. One version makes use of pseudo-enantiomers or pseudo-meso-compounds based on 13 C-labeling. A throughput of at least 1400 ee determinations per day is possible by using an appropriate

To screen efficiently the millions of compounds that are synthesized using combinatorial and automated methods, dramatically improved assay technologies are currently needed. In 96-well microtiter plates, nonradioactive techniques (primarily fluorimetric) and cell-based functional methods have moved
