✦ Synopsis

Absolute rate constants for the reaction of O(3P) atoms with n-butane (kz) and NO(M = Ar) (k3) have been determined over the temperature range 298-439 K using a flash photolysis-NO2 chemiluminescence technique. The Arrhenius esprcssions obtained were k2 = 2.5 X 10 -11exp[-(4170 f 300)/RT] cm3 molecule-' s-l, k3 = 1.46 X 10m3' esp[WO 2 200)/ RT] cm6 molecule-2 s-*, with rate constants at room temperature of k2 = (2.2 r 0.4) x lo-l4 cm3 molecule-' s-l and k3 = (7.04 f 0.70) X 10e3* cm6 molecuE s'-I. These rate constants are compared and discussed with literature vatuer
