✦ Synopsis
The title compound, [Ni(C 8 H 6 N 2 ) 3 ][Mo 6 O 19 ], contains centrosymmetric [Mo 6 O 19 ] 2À hexamolybdate anions, which are built up from distorted MoO 6 units by edge-sharing. The nickel atom in the [Ni(phen) 3 ] 2+ cation adopts distorted octahedral coordination with three N,N 0 -bidentate 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) ligands. The crystal packing is stabilized by some weak stacking interactions between neighboring phen ligands, and some C-HÁ Á ÁO interactions. The Ni atom occupies a special position with twofold symmetry.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Co(C 12 H 8 N 2 ) 3 ]-(I 3 ) 2 , contains one [Co(1,10-phenanthroline) 3 ] 2+ cation, half each of two centrosymmetric triiodide anions, and one complete triiodide anion. The title compound was synthesized solvothermally from Co(NO 3 ) 2 , 1,10-phenanthrol
