โœฆ Synopsis

A mixture of Brz + HBr + CzFsI was photolyzed in the vapor phase. The reaction Br + CzFsI -IBr + CzF5 forms CzFb radicals which are removed by (9) CzFs + Brz -CzFbBr + Br kg (10) CzFs + HBr -CzFsH + Br klo Competitive studies over the range of 74-146'C gave ratios of h l ~/ h s , and these were combined with values obtained previously by different methods a t higher temperatures up to 515OC to give log (hlo/129) = (-0.47 f 0.03) -(12,500 f 300)/8

where 0 = 2.303RT J/mol. A value is assigned to the activation energy Elo, and this, with other data, leads t o D(C2Fs -H) = 429.8 f 2.1 kJ/mol at 25ยฐC. This result is in excellent agreement with two previous independent determinations.

The reactions (2) (3) have been studied competitively in the vapor phase over the range of 52-204ยฐC. The i-C3F7 radicals were generated by means of the reaction It was found that log kz/k3 = (0.55 f 0.07) + (10,870 f 560)/0 where 0 = 2.303RT J/mol. Absolute Arrhenius parameters are derived for the

The rate constant for the reaction of phenyl radical with hydrogen bromide has been measured with the cavity-ring-down method a t six temperatures between 297 and 523 K. The Arrhenius expression for the H abstraction reaction can be effectively given by: k4 = 10-10.3950.10 exp[-(551 ? 19)/T] cm3/s.
