โœฆ Synopsis

A new method for computing the optimal control of container cranes divides the load motion into sections and an optimal speed reference for a ship container load can be computed using an e~icient algorithm which satisfies specified boundary conditions and minimizes the swing of a load as it moves along its trajectory.

An optimization study applied to rectangular liquid tankers, subjected to some road manoeuvres, is presented and discussed. The optimal geometrical shape, given by the height/width ratio of a container, is computed based on the nonlinear static analysis of the liquid loading arising during such mano
