Photocatalyst destroys bacteria and viruses
Daikin Industries Ltd has developed a photocatalyst which can deactivate bacteria, viruses, and their toxins, with better than 99.9% efficiency. The catalyst is a titanium-modified calcium hydrox-apatite developed by Fujitsu Laboratories and Tokyo University. It acts as an adsorbent as well as a catalyst and is 2.5 times better than the adsorbent utilised in traditional filters. The firm hopes to utilise the new filter in its air conditioners by the end of 2003.
