Abstract
A lowโprofile internal monopole antenna has been proposed for multistandard mobile phones. The proposed antenna operates at GSM (880โ960 MHz), DCS (1710โ1880 MHz), PCS (1850โ1990 MHz), UMTS (1920โ2170 MHz), WiBro (2300โ2390 MHz), Bluetooth (2.42โ2.48 GHz), SโDMB (2.630โ2.655 GHz), and WLAN (5.1โ5.37, 5.75โ5.9 GHz) frequency bands. Multiple resonators have been connected in parallel in a compact configuration to realize a miniaturized internal antenna for modern multistandard handsets. The proposed monopole antenna has been designed within a volume of 0.43 cm^3^ (20 mm ร 14 mm ร 1.5 mm) that makes it suitable for ultraโthin mobile terminals. Two prototype antennas have been fabricated and characterized for return losses and radiation performances which are quite reasonable at all the targeted frequency bands. ยฉ 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
