✦ Synopsis
An inno¨ati¨e monopole antenna with a parasitic helix mounted on the ground plane is designed for installation on mobile-phone handsets. Unlike the con¨entional monopole antenna, measurements showed that the added parasitic helix could result in a wider bandwidth for the whole antenna. The radiation patterns and the polarization properties of the monopole antenna are also shown to be relati¨ely unchanged. Results at 1.8 GHz,which is the operating frequency of PCS ( ) personal communications ser¨ices or GSM1800, will be presented.
