β¦ Synopsis
A novel technique is presented for the study of post-source decay in matrix-assisted laser desorption time-of-flight mass spectrometry. By introducing a voltage labelling cell within the field-free region we have been able to distinguish between intact ions, fragmented ions and neutrals in a linear time-of-flight instrument. Results are presented for positive and negative ions of bovine insulin (MW 5733) which demonstrate the potential of the technique for investigating the effect of source conditions on post-source fragmentation.

Bumetanide was evaluated as a matrix for prompt fragmentation matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) experiments on peptides. Both the MALDI mass spectrum and some physical properties of bumetanide were compared with those of some commonly used matrices. Bumetanide was then evaluated fo
Chemical degradation methods combined with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) and post-source decay (PSD)-MALDI reflex TOF mass spectrometry (MS) were used to determine the sequence of a peptide branched on to a known peptide backbone. This study was applied to a
