A capillary column gas chromatographic mass spectrometric method, involving the use of a deuterated analogue as internal standard, was developed and used to identify and quantify tryptamine in the rat brain. The mean level of tryptamine in rat whole brain was 0.54 pmolg-l.

The development of an analytical method for the determination of brain tryptamine using capillary gas chromatography mass spectrometry (selected ion monitoring) is presented. The method involves solvent extraction of brain homogenates and further derivatization (pentafluoropropionyl derivatives) of
We used gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to assay putrescine in minute regions of single rat brains. Acid extraction, partial purification on Amberlite CG 120, and derivatization with pentafluoropropionic anhydride preceded the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. A moving-needle solventless sy
