Both free and immobilized cells of !3poroZacfobacillus ceZZuZosoluens, in continuous culture on molasses (50 g sugar I-') at 4O"C, had maximum lactic acid productivities of 0.03 and 0.06 mol I-' h, at dilution rates of 0.27 and 0.25 h-', respectively.

Lactic acid was produced from pretreated beet molasses by the homofermentative organism Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp delbrueckii IFO 3202 entrapped in calcium alginate gel using batch, repeated batch and continuous fermentation systems. In batch fermentation studies successful results were obtain
