Various Carbon-I4 l a b e l l e d amino acids i n c l u d i n g t h e a r o m a t i c ones viz., t y r o s i n e , phenylalanine and t r y p t o p h a n are converted t o t h e corresponding c a r b o x y l i c acids i n high y i e l d (70 -9M) on a micromolar scale s y n t h e s i s l y r e a c t i o n w i t h hydroxylamine-0-sulphonic acid and I n a s h o r t r e a c t i o n t i m e .

The improvement i n y i e l d has been achieved by u s i n g aqueous alcohol as s o l v e n t i n l i e u of water alone as t h e medium o f r e a c t i o n .
