Abstract
Square pore crossβsections and pore arrays of high porosity can be produced by subsequent alkaline etching of macroporous silicon membranes. The dependence of pore geometry on etching time, solution temperature and composition is investigated. The produced membranes offer new roads to investigate the formation of pyramidal hillocks during alkaline etching; an effect which is known for half a century, but not understood in detail. ## Abstract We used a XeCl excimer laser (308 nm, βΌ3 J cm^β2^) and chemically enhanced laser ablation in the presence of SF~6~ to create arrays of silicon pillars. Etching of these pillars with KOH leads to arrays of macropores whose morphology depends on surface crystallography. Several new stain
## Abstract The future of electro mobility depends critically on substantially improved Li ion batteries. Si as anode material has a more than tenfold higher capacity as compared to the standard graphite anode, but needs to be nanostructured to avoid fracture. It is shown that macropore etching com
