The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(C~7~H~5~O~3~)(C~14~H~12~N~2~)(H~2~O)~2~]NO~3~, comprises one half of the Ni^II^ complex cation and one half of the non-coordinated nitrate anion, as both the Ni atom and the N and one O atoms of the anion lie on twofold rotation axes. The Ni^2+^ cation

✦ Synopsis
In the title compound, [Mn(C~7~H~5~O~3~)~2~(C~14~H~12~N~2~)]·C~14~H~12~N~2~·2H~2~O, the Mn^II^ ion is coordinated by a bidentate 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmphen) ligand and two bidentate 3-hydroxybenzoate anions in a distorted octahedral environment. The structure is stabilized by O—H...O and O—H...N hydrogen bonds involving water molecules, the 3-hydroxybenzoate ligands and the uncoordinated dmphen molecules to form a three-dimensional network.

The crystal structure of the title compound, [CuCl 2 -(C 14 H 12 N 2 )(H 2 O)], previously reported by Preston & Kennard [J. Chem. Soc. A (1969). pp. 2955±2958], has been redetermined. The recognition of an inversion twin allowed a much better re®nement.
In the title compound, [Fe(NO 3 ) 2 (C 14 H 12 N 2 )(H 2 O)], the Fe atom is six-coordinated in an octahedral geometry by O and N atoms. The water molecules act as donors in O-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds, linking the molecules into chains along the c axis. The chains are connected into a three-dimensiona
