✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Polyester powder coatings are used for corrosion protection of different materials. XPS studies were performed in order to characterize such coatings on steel surfaces as a pre‐treatment for following applications like gluing. Different surface treatments by alkaline cleaner, plasma treatment (Plasma Treat® process), and the use of a silicoater (Pyrosil® process) were investigated. In dependence of such treatments, the resulting surfaces are found to be hydrophilic or hydrophobic. Although this behavior can also be investigated by contact‐angle measurements, the aim of our work is the element‐specific characterization of chemical bonding states (speciation).

Three new sulphur-passivation techniques of GaAs surfaces are presented to solve the problem of longevity and durability. To explore the passivation mechanism, XPS in conjunction With other techniques are employed to study the chemical compositions of Ga and As atoms near the passivation filmlsubstr

## Abstract X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy was used to study the chemical composition and electronic structure of the Y~3~Al~5~O~12~:Yb (YAG:Yb) crystals. The contamination of the crystal with carbon and oxygen in the broken under UHV sample was found. The dopant concentration of Yb, in the mixed
