✦ Synopsis

In the title compound, [Co(C 8 H 6 NO 6 S)(C 12 H 8 N 2 )(H 2 O) 3 ]-(C 8 H 6 NO 6 S)ÁH 2 O, the Co II atom shows an octahedral coordination, the geometry being defined by a carboxylate O atom from a 4-nitrophenylsulfonylacetate anion, two N atoms from the phenanthroline ligand and three water molecules. The molecules of the complex are linked by O-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds, which also involve the solvent water molecule, to form a linear chain structure.
