✦ Synopsis
The title complex, [Co(C 7 H 5 O 3 ) 2 (C 12 H 8 N 2 )(H 2 O) 2 ]ÁH 2 O, displays a distorted octahedral coordination geometry about the Co II atom, involving two 4-hydroxybenzoate anions, one 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) molecule and two water molecules. The face-to-face distance of 3.420 (5) A ˚between partially overlapped parallel phen rings reflects astacking interaction between neighboring Co II complex molecules. A network of O-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds helps to stabilize the crystal packing.

The title dinuclear Co II complex, [Co 2 (C 8 H 7 O 2 ) 4 (C 12 H 8 N 2 ) 2 -(H 2 O)], has C 2 symmetry with the coordinated water O atom located on a twofold axis. Two Co II ions are bridged by two methylbenzoate (MBZ) anions and one water molecule. Each Co II ion displays a distorted octahedral co
