โฆ Synopsis
Abatraet-The new failure criterion of rock in plastic strain space is presented upon previous experiment results and the hypothesis that dissipation energy in a material causes failure. The main characteristics and applications to rocks of the criterion are discussed. The criterion can well explain that materials do not exhibit failure at pure hydrostatical pressure and could conveniently be used to predict rock failures at different stress or strain states without appendant assumptions.

The theoretical stress-strain relation in the compression zone of a concrete beam is determined by means of an approximate application of a model with strain softening and localization, i.e. with the descending branch described as a stress-deformation relation instead of a stress-strain relation. The models of crack initiation and subcritical growth in quasi-brittle materials were elaborated for this purpose. Non-stationary dynamic p
A fracture mechanics approach has been used to predict the approximate extent of cracking in a prestressed concrete pressure vessel subject to overpressure. The stress intensity factor has been calculated by means of the crack closure work concept and finite element stress analysis for a range of cr
