✦ Synopsis

Akaract--This paper presents the generalized results obtained in investigations of growing crack acoustic emission (AE) from a standpoint of fracture mechanics. The models of crack initiation and subcritical growth in quasi-brittle materials were elaborated for this purpose. Non-stationary dynamic problems of the crack theory were formulated on their basis. The variety of new analytical relationships between crack parameters and AE signal parameters suitable for engineering calculations was obtained.

## Abstract The purpose of this investigation was to apply the techniques of fracture mechanics to a study of fatigue crack propagation in compact bone. Small cracks parallel to the long axis of the bone were initiated in standardized specimens of bovine bone. Crack growth was achieved by cyclicall
