Abatraet-The new failure criterion of rock in plastic strain space is presented upon previous experiment results and the hypothesis that dissipation energy in a material causes failure. The main characteristics and applications to rocks of the criterion are discussed. The criterion can well explain

โฆ Synopsis
A fracture mechanics approach has been used to predict the approximate extent of cracking in a prestressed concrete pressure vessel subject to overpressure. The stress intensity factor has been calculated by means of the crack closure work concept and finite element stress analysis for a range of crack lengths. By comparing these results wlth published pseudo fracture toughness data for concrete the extent of cracking has been predicted. A theoretical method was developed for calculating the stress intensity factor (K) for semielliptical surface cracks in shafts subjected to a constant moment load. A number of tests using 2and 3-dimensional photoelasticity showed good agreement with the theoretical model. The calculated K was then u
An investigation of the fatigue retardation phenomenon by interference microscope of two different magnifications (64x and 168~) has been made with SEN soecimens of Ti-SAI-2.5 Sn and 30CrMnSiNisteel. The findings are listed as follows: (I) The basic behaviour: It has been observed that the consecut
In this paper the direct boundary integral equation method is applied to dynamic fracture mechanics, and the computational results are compared with experimental values. The comparison shows that the authors' computation is successful.
