During the course of the investigations on the biosynthesis of fungal isoprenoids, trichodiol (I.), a new sesquiterpenediol, was isolated from a
Three new natural products were isolated from Fumrium spp, one apotricho~ aad two oxygenated derivatives of trichodiene. The apotrichothecene was a precu&r to apotrichcdiol and saa~buci-IIOI. Apotrichothecenes were for a long time considered to be the products of the trichothecenes under acidic con
## Abstract The synthesis of radiolabelled trichodiene with ^14^C at the olefinic methyl (Cβ16) is described. The isotope was introduced using a ^14^CβWittig reagent prepared __in situ__ from triphenyl phosphine and ^14^Cβmethyliodide.
A highly regio-and stereoselective synthesis of the sesquiterpenoid trichediene is reported. The approach requires only nine steps starting with a [2+2] photoaddition and employs the free radical fragmentation of an "external" cyclobutane bond in a key step.
