Absolute rate constants for the reaction of O(3P) atoms with CHI = CHF, CH2 = CHC1, and CH2 = CHBr have been obtained at 298 f 2ยฐK using a modulation phase shift technique. The rate constants ( k z X lo-\* l./mole.sec) obtained are: CH2 = CHF (1.61 =t 0.20), CH2 = CHCl (2.54 + 0.26), and CHZ = CHBr

โฆ Synopsis
The absolute second-order rate coefficient for the reaction, O(3P) + CH300H + products, was measured to be ki = (1.06 ? 0.26) x cm3 molec-' s-l at 297 K, where the quoted error is 2 a including precision and estimated systematic errors. The possible presence of (CH3CHp),0 in our sample of CH,OOH leads to a large error in k l which reflects the relatively large uncertainty indicated. O(3P) was generated in excess CH300H by photolyzing a small amount of O3 a t 532 nm, where CH300H does not photolyze. The rate of removal of O?P) in the experiments was monitored by resonance fluorescence detection. The increased reactivity of O("P) with CH300H relative to H202 is interpreted as due to H abstraction from the CH3 group.
