โฆ Synopsis
Rats were fed a diet containing lithium which maintained their serum lithium levels between 0.3--0.9 mEq/1 for one week prior to behavioral tests. The activity, reactivity, and endurance of the rats was measured in the open field, activity wheel, Skinner box, jiggle cage and swim-to-exhaustion tests. Lithium was found to decrease the voluntary activity of the rats without affecting their reactivity or muscle strength.

Striatal dopamine and its metabolites were studied in rats given lithium chloride in the diet. Results showed an increase in homovanillic acid and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid levels but no significant change in dopamine concentration after 3 weeks of lithium administration. ## Abstract Lithium is widely used in medicine as an antidepressive drug. Despite abundant literature on the subject, questions on the effects of lithium on collagen, which is one of the major components of tissues and organs, are far from being answered. We have examined the effects of lithium chl
