Using a homemade ultrasensitive space charge limited ion detector, the K 2 singlet gerade states (7-9 1 S / g and 4 1 P g ) were observed for the first time. The exotic potential of the double minimum 7 1 S / g state was constructed using a hybrid approximation method. The molecular constants and th

✦ Synopsis
The 2 1 P g state of 39 K 2 , which dissociates to the 4s / 3d asymptote, has been observed for the first time via the intermediate levels of the A 1 S / u (£ Å 1-12) state using high-resolution cw optical-optical double resonance excitation spectroscopy. Absolute vibrational numbering has been assigned. A set of molecular constants has been fitted by using the observed term values. The Rydberg-Klein-Rees potential curve is calculated with the fitted molecular constants. The dissociation energy of this state has been determined to be 2318.09 { 0.13 cm 01 .

The molecular constants of the previously unobserved 5 and \(6^{\prime} \Sigma_{g}^{+}\)states of \(K_{2}\) are determined and the potential curves are constructed using the Rydberg-Klein-Rees (RKR) method.
