β¦ Synopsis
The complementary reaction between T1 t and AuC12 was studied in a 3.0 mol dm-3 HC1 medium. The active species of oxidant and reductant were found to be HAuCI+ and T1C12, respectively. A mechanism involving these reactive species is proposed, in agreement with the results obtained.

The kinetics of the reaction between nitrous acid and gold(Ill) in an HCI medium was studied. The hexacyanoferrate(II1)-thallium(1) reaction in aqueous acetic acid containing large concentrations of hydrochloric acid is considerably accelerated both by hydrogen and chloride ions as well as increasing acetic acid in the medium. The experimental results obey the rate law (1) where PI to p6 (1
Kinetic data for the oxidation of D-glucose by hexachloroiridate(IV) and tetrachloroaurate(II1) are reported. The reactions have been studied spectrophotometrically over a wide range of experimental conditions. The activation parameters have been calculated and mechanisms are suggested.
