The kinetics of the reaction between nitrous acid and gold(Ill) in an HCI medium was studied. The reaction was first order with respect to rAu III] and [HNO2]'H + and C1-ions inhibit the rate and alkali metal ions have specific effects on the rate. The reaction appears to involve different gold(III)

Kinetic data for the oxidation of D-glucose by hexachloroiridate(IV) and tetrachloroaurate(II1) are reported. The reactions have been studied spectrophotometrically over a wide range of experimental conditions. The activation parameters have been calculated and mechanisms are suggested.

The complementary reaction between T1 t and AuC12 was studied in a 3.0 mol dm-3 HC1 medium. The active species of oxidant and reductant were found to be HAuCI+ and T1C12, respectively. A mechanism involving these reactive species is proposed, in agreement with the results obtained.
