✦ Synopsis
As a part of our studies on acylacrylic acids and derivatives (1). we have been attempting to synthesize -3-cyanoacrolein, a compound which promised to react as an active dienophile in the Diela-Alder reaction and seemed to be an attractive intermediate in organic aynthesie. It haa been only recently, in connection with the high polymer chemistry. that two synthesis of this compound have been described (2, 3).
We wish to report a new synthetic route to u-3-cyanoacrolein and its diethylacetal,

The synthesis and chemical reactivity in Diels-Alder reactions of the title compound 6 is described. When 6 was reacted with N-phenylmaleimide, a 3:1 mixture of isomers exo 14a and endo 14b was found, while with triazolinedione 13, a novel ferrocenyl heterocycle 15 was formed. The structures for 14b
Stereocontrolled asymmetric synthesis and transannular Diels-Alder (TADA) reaction of a 14-membered transcis-cis (TCC) macrocyclic trienone with an activated dienophile leading to an A.B.C [6.6.6] tricycle having one angular methyl group is reported. The results of thermal and Lewis acid catalyzed T
