✦ Synopsis

The polysaccharide moiety of the 022-antigen (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) consists of 2-acetamido-2deoxy-D-galactose, D-glucuronic acid, D-glucose, and D-galactose in the molar ratios 2: 1: 1: 1. Methylation analysis as well as 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy showed that the 022 polysaccharide has the primary structure * 6bD-Glcp-(1 + 4)-&o-GlcpA-(1 + 4)+mGalpNAc_(l + 3)-m-D-Galp-(1 + 3)-p-D-GalpNAc_(l ---) 3 6Ac
