Immature soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr) embryos, or cotyledons isolated from them, were cultured on modified MS medium containing B5 vitamins and NAA (50 #M) to induce somatic embryogenesis. The effects of media variables, dissection treatments and light conditions were investigated in this system.

Genotype has a large effect on the ability of immature soybean cotyledons to undergo auxin-stimulated somatic embryogenesis. Among 33 soybean lines, all those showing good regeneration were found to have in their pedigrees one or both of the highly regenerative ancestral lines, 'Manchu' or 'A.K. Har
Six commercially important soybean cultivars and one control cultivar were compared for differences in inductionefficiency of somatic embryogenesis, primary embryo yield, and embryo conversion. Cotyledons from immature seeds of similar developmental stage for all soybean cultivars were used for embr
Optimal media for induction of somatic embryogenesis from mature and immature tissues of G. hirsutum L. cv Coker 312 were determined. Explants of three-day-old seedlings form somatic embryos in 100% of cultures when treated with 0.1 mg/l 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid plus 0.5 mg/1 kinetin. Mature t
The effects of plant growth regulators on somatic embryogenesis were studied in leaf cultures of Coffea canephora. The maximum number of somatic embryos were obtained on media that contained only cytokinin as a plant growth regulator. All of the auxins tested (NAA, IBA, IAA and 2, 4-D) inhibited the
Cotyledonary explants of Chinese cabbage were cultured on Murashige and Skoog's medium supplemented with various concentrations of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. Up to 20% of the cotyledonary explants produced somatic embryos with or without intervening callus production. Explants became more compe
