Enrichment of lecithin with omega-3 acids by acidolysis using immobilised phospholipase A1 Lecitase Ultra, immobilised on Duolite A568 resin, was used to promote the acidolysis of lecithin using a concentrate of fish oil acids containing EPA, DPA, and DHA (78.4 mol%). Optimum conditions were: subst

β¦ Synopsis
Effect of ALA-enriched food supply on cardiovascular risk factor in males Healthy male prisoners (59) in a Belgian jail were supplied with an omega-3 supplement over 12 weeks. Omega-3 PUFA, mainly ALA, were raised from 4g/day in the standard diet to 6.5g. There was no impact on waist circumference, weight, and BMI but diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly and HDL-cholesterol increased in non-smoking participants. The study demonstrated that enrichment of commonly eaten foods with omega-3 acids decreases the omega-6/omega-3 ratio with favourable consequences for the health of the men.
