โฆ Synopsis
The gas-phase reaction of ozone with a series of unsaturated oxygenates and with 1-pentene has been studied at ambient T (287-296 K) and atm. of air. Reaction rate p ฯญ 1 constants, in units of cm 3 molecule ฯช1 s ฯช1 , are for 2 (5H)-furanone, ฯช18 10 0.22 ฯฎ 0.05 for methacrolein, for crotonaldehyde, for methylvinyl ke-1.08 ฯฎ 0.20 1.74 ฯฎ 0.20 5.84 ฯฎ 0.39 tone, for methyl acrylate, for vinyl acetate, for cis-3-hexenyl 1.05 ฯฎ 0.15 3.20 ฯฎ 0.47 59.0 ฯฎ 8.7 acetate, for ethylvinyl ether, for linalool, and for 1-pentene. 154 ฯฎ 30
ี(315 ฯฎ 23) 10.9 ฯฎ 1.4 The results are compared to literature data for the compounds studied and for other unsaturated oxygenates, and are discussed in terms of reactivity toward ozone as a function of the nature, number, and position of the oxygen-containing substituents 9 CHO, 9C(O)R, 9 C(O)OR, and 9OC(O)R. Atmospheric implications are briefly examined.
