✦ Synopsis

Radical and non-radical features have been observed in the oxidative coupling of xylenol into quinones and polymers. This paper presents an attempt to determine the role of organic radicals in the reaction. The observations suggest that they are involved directly in the chain growth and that catalyst is necessary for completion of the oxidative coupling reaction.
