The oligosaccharides of chitosan, glucosamine through chitohexaose, were separated and quantitated with the use of an amino acid analyzer. The oligosaccharides can be satisfactorily resolved with a step gradient using two buffers, but resolution is improved with a linear buffer gradient. Using exper

โฆ Synopsis
Chitosans were quantified with ninhydrin, a reagent normally used for recognizing and quantifying amino groups. The reaction was time dependent and there was no effect when different acids were added to the mixture. This method was used to determine the percentage of free amino groups in chitosans of different origins.

The amount of free e-amino groups of lysine residues in proteins can be determined by a fast and straightforward method based on the use of r9F NMR spectroscopy. Unsubstituted e-amino groups are trifluoroacetylated with the reagent, S-ethyl trifluorothioacetate, in dimethyl sulfoxide solution, and t
