The simple anthracycline analogues 3a-e were synthesized as potential anticancer agents. Anodic oxidation of the phenol derivative 4, phthalide anion annelation ofp-quinone monoacetals 5 and selective attachment of the side chain were the three key steps towards these target compounds.
Preparation of a series of substituted 4-thiazolylmethoxyureas and 4-thiazolylmethoxythioureas is described. These compounds, which are structurally related to the antitumor agent hydroxyurea, were essentially inactive when screened against the L-1210 lymphoid leukemia test system. One compound, 4th
