✦ Synopsis

In the title linear polymeric chain compound, [Cd(C~10~H~8~O~5~)(C~12~H~8~N~2~)]~n~, the Cd^II^ ion exists in a monocapped triangular–prismatic geometry that is defined by two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline molecule and five O atoms from three 2-(4-carboxylatophenoxy)propionate ligands. Adjacent chains are cross-linked via π–π stacking interactions between the 1,10-phenanthroline rings [centroid–centroid distance = 3.5894 (6) Å].
