The internal energy of the excited BaO formed in the reaction between Ba(6s5d 'D2) and an OZ molecule has been studied in a crossed beam apparatus as a function of the collision energy. It is found to be statistically distributed even at a collision energy as high as 0.58 eV. By comparison with the

โฆ Synopsis
The variation of product alignment from the beam-gas reaction Ba + N,O+BaO*+N, with respect to the relative translational energy and the electronic energy of the reactants is observed by measuring the polarization of the BaO* product chemiluminescence. A new picture is proposed for the reaction mechanism and the potential energy surface character for this reaction.
