## Abstract A widely used herbicide, 2,2โ€dichloropropionic acid (dalapon), was synthesized with ^14^Cโ€labeling in the Cโ€1 or Cโ€2 positions. The carboxyl labeled material was prepared in 55% yield by carbonation of 1,1โ€dichloroโ€ethyllithium at approximately โˆ’104ยฐ. Starting with trichloroacetic acid,
