✦ Synopsis
Al~tract--The effect of temperature on the chain scission and crosslinking yields of polyvinylacetate (PVA), irradiated at 2537 Ain vacuo, has been investigated between --6 ° and 80 °. The quantum yields of both processes increase with temperature but their ratio remains constant. The Arrhenius plot is made up of two distinct parts with a break at Tw. The activation energies are respectively 1.2 kcal/mole and 9-5 kcal/mole in the low and high temperature ranges. The results support the mechanism previously proposed for the photolysis of PVA. They are interpreted in terms of molecular motions in the polymer.
