✦ Synopsis

Abstract

This letter presents a monopole type penta‐band internal antenna using a parasitic element. The proposed antenna, with the small size of 37 × 8 × 3.5 mm^3^ can provide sufficient bandwidth to cover the GSM(850/900), DCS, PCS, and WCDMA bands. The measured impedance bandwidth (VSWR ≤ 3) of the proposed antenna can cover 250 MHz in the lower frequency band and 1082 MHz in the upper frequency band. Ansoft HFSS (High Frequency Structure Simulator) is employed to analyze the proposed antenna in the design process and to compare it with the experimental results. The measured peak gains of the proposed antenna range from 1.21 to 2.48 dBi for the GSM(850/900), DCS, PCS, and WCDMA bands. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
