✦ Synopsis

In the title compound, C~31~H~21~N~3~O~5~, the indan ring system makes dihedral angles of 53.26 (6) with the nitrobenzene ring, and 66.50 (6) and 58.39 (7)° with the two phenyl rings. The crystal packing is stabilized by weak intermolecular N—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonds.

In the title compound, C 13 H 9 NO 4 , the dihedral angle between the benzene and furan rings is 31.63 (6) . The nitro group is almost coplanar with the attached benzene ring. In the crystal structure, intermolecular C-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds link the molecules, forming chains along the b axis.

The title compound, C 9 H 8 N 2 O 3 , was obtained by a zinc chloride-promoted addition and ring-closure reaction involving 3-nitrobenzonitrile and 2-ethanolamine. The planar oxazoline and aromatic rings of the molecule are almost coplanar, with a dihedral angle of 8.79 (5) between them. The oxazoli
