✦ Synopsis
The title compound, C 9 H 8 N 2 O 3 , was obtained by a zinc chloride-promoted addition and ring-closure reaction involving 3-nitrobenzonitrile and 2-ethanolamine. The planar oxazoline and aromatic rings of the molecule are almost coplanar, with a dihedral angle of 8.79 (5) between them. The oxazoline ring is disordered over two positions, rendering the oxygen and nitrogen positions indistinguishable.
