✦ Synopsis

In the title compound, C 13 H 9 NO 4 , the dihedral angle between the benzene and furan rings is 31.63 (6) . The nitro group is almost coplanar with the attached benzene ring. In the crystal structure, intermolecular C-HÁ Á ÁO hydrogen bonds link the molecules, forming chains along the b axis.

The thiophene ring of the title compound, C 13 H 9 NO 3 S, is disordered. An approximate 180 rotation of the thiophene ring with respect to the central C-C single bond is observed in the molecule.

The title molecule, C 16 H 13 NO 4 , crystallizes with two molecules in the asymmetric unit. The dihedral angles between the two benzene rings are 5.1 (2) and 6.2 (2) .
