The nucleotide sequence of a 2โข8 kb fragment containing the ADE2 gene of the osmotolerant yeast Zygosaccharomyces rouxii has been determined. The gene was cloned from a Z. rouxii genomic DNA library by complementation of the Saccharomyces cerevisae ade2 mutant strain. The sequenced DNA fragment cont

โฆ Synopsis
We have cloned and sequenced the Schizosaccharomyces pombe ade10 gene encoding 5-phosphoribosyl-4carboxamide 5-aminoimidazole transformylase inosine monophosphate cyclohydrolase. The sequence has an uninterrupted open reading frame of 1755 nucleotides corresponding to 585 amino acid residues. The deduced amino acid sequence shows a high degree of similarity to the purH gene product of many species, including Saccharomyces cerevisiae, human, chicken and Escherichia coli. Moreover our data indicate that intrachromosomal recombination in Schiz. pombe is enhanced if the ade10 gene product is defective. The sequence has been submitted to the EMBL data library under Accession Number Y16419.

The nucleotide sequence of a chitin synthase gene (CHS2) of the dimorphic fungal human pathogen Paracoccidioides brasiliensis has been determined. The deduced amino acid sequence of Chs2p consists of 1043 residues and is highly homologous to other class II fungal chitin synthases. Computational stru
Only a few yeast strains produce pectin-degrading enzymes such as pectin esterases and depolymerases (hydrolases and lyases). Strain SCPP is the only known Saccharomyces strain to produce these pectinases. One of these pectolytic enzymes, PGL1-encoded endopolygalacturonase (EC 3.2.1.15), hydrolyses
The mammalian Hox clusters arose by duplication of a primordial cluster. The duplication of Hox clusters created redundancy within cognate groups, allowing for change in function over time. The lamprey, Petromyzon marinus, occupies an intermediate position within the chordates, both in terms of morp
