✦ Synopsis
The laser excited luminescence spectra of the Eu 3 + ion were used to study equilibrium solvatation processes in non-aqueous solutions.
The luminescence observed was mainly from 5D 0 excited states to the ~F~ ground levels. The fine structure observed within these emission bands leads to the determination of the site symmetry of the Eu a + species in solution.
Analysis of the f-f transition probability, based on the Judd theory, leads to D~ parameter determinations. Intensity analysis of the 7Fo.-.*SD 2 transition allows us to consider the steric effect on the structure of n-propanol and i-propanol sotvates.
