✦ Synopsis

Photoelectron spectra resulting from the two-photon resonant, three-photon ionization of 0s via the newly observed 3dS '*'0, Rydberg states are reported for u=O to 3 vibrational levels. The preparation of vibrationally state-selected 0: ion is quite remarkable, yielding > 98% pure u+ = v ionic states.

Ab initio SCF/CI calculations on Rh2(02CH)4(H20)2+ indicate that the odd electron is accommodated in the quasi-degenerate x&,\_~~ orbital, in agreement with a recent analysis of the ESR spectrum. The failure of previous theoretical treatments is attributed to the artificially delocalized description
