✦ Synopsis
Fractionation of proteins of mycelial cell free extracts from Saprolegnia monoica revealed the presence of two different (1.3)/~ glucanases. The most important fraction exhibited activity against laminarin and p. nitrophenyl BD. glucopyranoside. The other was active on both laminarin and oxidized laminarin. This endo-glucanase represented the main part of glucanase activities released during cell wall autolysis. Properties and cellular distribution of these enzymes are discussed in respect to their morphogenetic role in hyphal differentiation.

We determined the primary structure of a tobacco r-1,3-glucanase gene. The r-1,3-glucanase gene has a single large intron, and the intron separates coding regions of the signal peptide and the mature enzyme. Analysis of the 5'-flanking region sequence revealed an 11 bp GC-rich element with perfect h
A highly sensitive and specific "rocket" immunoassay was used to measure the content of an endo-type/?-l,3-glucanase (EC 3.2.1.39) in tissues of Nicotiana tabacum L. cv. Havana 425. We show that the accumulation of fl-l,3-glucanase in cultured pith-parenchyma tissue is blocked by combinations of the
A P-D-glucan isolated from a Japanese marine alga known as "Arame" (Eisenia bicyclis) was shown by methylation analysis to be composed of (l-3) and (l-+6) linkages and ( 1+3),(1+6) branch points. The 13C-n.m.r. spectrum confirmed these linkages and also verified the absence of /3-( l-+4) linkages. T
The 1,3-1,4--glucanases from Bacillus macerans and Bacillus licheniformis, as well as related hybrid enzymes, are stable proteins comprised of one compact jellyroll domain. Their structures are studied in an effort to reveal the degree of redundancy to which the three-dimensional structure of prote
