✦ Synopsis
The internal motion of the cyclopentyl radical, trapped in a halocarbon matrix, CF,ClCFCI,, has been studied utilizing electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy. The lineshapes of the ESR spectra corresponding to the radical exhibit an alternating linewidth effect in the temperature range 1 lo-135 K. The experimental ESR spectra were simulated using a dynamical model based on interconversion between two twisted C2 structures and the activation energy was estimated to 2.8 kcal/mol.
