β¦ Synopsis
The viability of hybridoma cells grown in reactors is investigated with two methods: the Trypan Blue staining of dead cells and the release of the cytoplasmic lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Linear correlations are found between the number of counted dead cells and the measured LDH activity in the supematant both when cells are grown with and without oxygen limitations. However the release of LDH is significantly higher for the oxygen limited culture ( 620 IU LDH / lo9 cells ) than for the non-oxygen limited culture ( 270 IU LDH / lo9 cells ).
